Kat Von D Chrysalis Palette Looks

This is two different looks that I created using Kat Von D Chrysalis eyeshadow palette. The look on the left is subtle purple smokey eye and on the right is blue and navy smokey eye.
Kat Von D Chrysalis Eyeshadow PaletteI have been using this palette for over 6 months now. When I bought this I didn't know they don't sell this on the Kat Von D Beauty official website, and also Sephora US website doesn't sell this palette anymore. I'm assuming they trying to clear their stock to sell to other countries who get their new releases a few months later all the time 🤷🏻‍♀️ anyway I bought this because of the purple shades from this palette. This palette came out in 2014, I've seen some reviews from YouTube around that time but somehow I didn't see people using this palette on their videos. On the package of this palette it has beautiful butterfly with skulls and also it is very sturdy cardboard package with mirror inside. It's the same material and layout as their well-known Shade + Light eyeshadow palette.

Kat Von D Chrysalis Eyeshadow Palette

Inside the palette looks like this. It is more cooler-side toned eyeshadows. There is 5 matte shades and 7 glittery and intense shimmery shades. But the thing is I can use only one brown matte shade for transition shade or to apply on my crease.
  • Lifelike - matte cream, it is really soft and finely milled formula eyeshadow and it stays on my oily eyelids for a long time, also I'm using this under y eyebrows and it just perfect natural eyebrow highlight shade. I really like this shade.
  • Hybrid Moments - matte red/brown undertone dark purple, this shadow is very tricky to apply. It has some kick back when you swipe a brush on it. Also it applies patchy so takes time to make it blend out properly.
  • Mezzanine - bright purple with purple sparkly glitters, this is very unique purple glittery shade in my opinion and I do love this colour so much. But the thing I recommend apply this shade with a finger or a wet brush, its because it didn't apply well with any flat eyeshadow brushes that I have.
  • Transition - mixture with silver and purple/mauve metallic sheen, this is very pigmented and interesting colour. It applies smoothly without any hassles.
  • Lunar Lights - grey-ish frosted white, I LOVE this shade as a highlighter. It is so soft and applies really nice on my eyes, under my eyebrows and cheek bones.
  • Glasswing - matte caramel, It is as soft as Lifelike (matte cream) shade. It is perfect colour to use on my crease. It is very pigmented so little goes a long way and also needs to be careful when you blend out darker colours with this shade. It will make darker shade kind of muddy so use small amount of this shade.
  • Melancholia - intense metallic gold, green & silver, this shade is very pigmented. It applies smooth but sometimes it fades and moves towards to lines in between my eyelids. So I recommend to use primer before use this shade.
  • Black Milk - matte minty grey white, it is very pigmented and very smooth and easy to blend shade. Also I think it is very unique colour shadow. It applies and stays well on my oily eyelids. Also this shade is same formulas as Lifelike and Glasswing.
  • Lucid - light pink with white sparkles, this shade is very powdery and has some fall out issues with sparkles. When I applied this shade the white sparkles were everywhere on my face not staying on my eyelids.
  • Graphic Nature - satin finish dark grey with white pearly glitters, it is very patchy and colour pay off is not that great. Also when I apply with a brush, it applies way more sheerer than apply with a finger.
  • Entombed - pearly sheen blue, I only use this colour with a wet brush and a finger. With a brush, it is somehow very difficult to apply. It has same formula and finish as Mezzanine but this shade applies worse than that with a brush.
  • Tornay - matte dark navy, it is powdery and it takes more time to blend out smoothly. Same quality as Hybrid Moments (matte purple shade)

Kat Von D Chrysalis Eyeshadow Palette Swatch

This is finger swatch (right) and brush swatch (left). Lifelike, Transition, Lunar Lights, Glasswing, Melancholia & Black Milk shades has nice pigmentation and also it applies smoothly with a finger and a brush. Especially, the last four shades (Lucid, Graphic Nature, Entombed & Tornay) are not a good quality eyeshadows because it applies patchy or too powdery to work with. I would say when the shade is darker, it is too hard to apply properly on my eyes. As you can see, darker matte shades (Hybrid Moments & Tornay) are patchy. And shimmer textured purple and blue shades (Mezzanine & Entombed) are very pigmented when I apply with a finger but I can't work with any types of brushes. Overall, I am not happy with all of darker shades from this palette but some of lighter shades are so pretty colour and it applies without no hassles.

I bought this eyeshadow palette just for the purple shades and I am happy with that. Even though this palette is not a day time look shades but I do use a lot because I really enjoy using Lifelike & Lunar Lights as a highlighter and I use matte caramel shades (Glasswing) all over my eye lids or on my crease. But I don't like the quality of half other shades from this palette because it's difficult to blending out smoothly or it is too patchy and powdery. For the money that I spent on this palette (which was AUD$64), I will give 6.5/10.
